Aqua Bike National Championships - Registration and New Course

Registration takes place at Triathletes Corner in St Helier’s on Friday 24th March from 11am until 7pm.   (No 10D Turua Street, St Heliers, Auckland, 1071)

Race entry is possible here and at Maraetai Beach on Saturday 25th March for an additional fee of $20.

Race Day

Transition opens at 6am.  Please note there is a separate transition for the Auckland Half Iron Man which is on the same day – please enter the Aqua Bike National Champs Transition only

Compulsory Race Briefing

Briefing is at 8.15am at Maraetai Beach.  It is essential you are at race briefing as there could be some important information and changes which will be confirmed prior to race start.

The Course

The Swim starts at Maraetai Beach. 

Please note - The Bike starts at Maraetai Beach and now finishes also at Maraetai.

Other useful information

Drink Station – there is a drink station at race HQ – this is water only and Sports drink.

Marshals - We will have marshals out on the course directing you along the route.  Please look out for them and obey all instructions given.  They are there for your safety.

Please familiarise yourself with the course and Maps.  It is your responsibility to know the course.

Toilets – There is a toilet block next to the race start. Please make sure you use these and not the cafes!

There is a toilet block at T2 / Finish line also.

Timing Chip - Remember to return your race timing chip to race HQ at T2 or there will be an additional charge of $40.


All roads will be open to other traffic. Obey road rules at all times.

The race is a National Championships so is therefore a sanctioned Triathlon New Zealand event.  This is a non-drafting race and Technical Officials will be monitoring competitors during the race.

Please ensure you follow marshals’ instructions at all times.

Medics will be on standby for the duration of the event.

If you do not start the race or pull out of the race for any reason you are to return the Timing Chip as above – Timing Chip

Aqua Bike  - Swim Course ( 8:30am Start)                       

Swim – 1000m 2 laps

2 laps  - Starting on the West side of the Pier athletes will head out round the 2 Yellow Buoys and back to the beach.  Exit the water and run around the flags to re-enter the water for the second lap.  They will then exit the water to Transition


Swim cut off: 10.00am



Bike – 90km

The Bike course * is an out and back 3 Lap course. It takes you along Maraetai Drive out towards Clevedon via North Road where you turn around the Clevedon roundabout back towards Maraetai turning left down Twilight Road to do a U-turn back out onto North Road heading back towards Maraetai.  The Aid Station is on North road just after you come out of Twilight Road.  After the 3 Laps (your responsibility to count) enter T2 in Maraetai.

Heading out of Transition - Head East towards North Road


Please note there may still be some debris on the road after the recent bad weather so take care out on the bike course.  (Bike cut off:  3.00pm)

Turn point on Twilight Road


Dismount and enter T2 and rack your bike.  (Bike cut off:  3.00pm)

Aqua Bike competitors will have to take off their Helmet after racking their bike and Exit Transition 2 to cross the Finish line on foot underneath the Gantry.  You can do so in you cycle shoes, Running shoes, socks or bare feet.

Please note: Crossing the Finish line on foot is part of the ITU Rules.

*not the most exciting course but the best we could do given the impact of the weather on the roads ;)
